Pope Sylvester II (c. 946 – 12 May 1003), born Gerbert d'Aurillac, was Pope from 2 April 999 until his death in 1003. A prolific scholar and teacher, he was a leader of what would become known as the Templar Order.

As an avid supporter and promoter of scientific development during the Middle Ages, Pope Sylvester II, like many other Templars, was branded a heretic and sorcerer by his enemies.
