Pope Sylvester II (c. 946 – 12 May 1003), born Gerbert d'Aurillac, was the head of the Catholic Church from 2 April 999 until his death in 1003. A prolific scholar and teacher, he was a leader of the Templar Order.
As an avid supporter and promoter of scientific development during the Middle Ages, Pope Sylvester II, like many other Templars, was branded a heretic and sorcerer by his enemies.
