St-Malo is a port city in northwest France.[1]

In the early 18th century, St-Malo was home to notorious corsairs, privateers, and pirates,[2] some of whom would commission sailors to bring them high-quality items.[3] The settlement's growth also propelled trade for exotic items such as cocoa pods from the Caribbean,[4] which prompted the Welsh pirate Edward Kenway to trade with the settlement a number of times.[2][3][4]
