Sophanes was a Greek man who wished to become an Athenian citizen during the Peloponnesian War.
Alkibiades called Sophanes a friend, and tasked the Spartan misthios Kassandra to help Sophanes in his task. First, Kassandra had to infiltrate the Stoa of Zeus and write Sophanes' name on a list.[1] Second, Kassandra had to find and convince another man to serve as a witness to Sophanes.[2]
However, according to Peiroos, Sophanes had betrayed his men for drachmae. Even though Alkibiades had known about this, he considered Sophanes worthy of a second chance.[2]
