Saint George (died 303), also George of Lydda, was a Roman soldier who served as a member Praetorian Guard during the reign of Roman emperor Diocletian. Following his refusal to recant his Christian faith, George wa sentenced him to death and eventually venerated as a saint in Christianity.

Legacy

By the 870s, alleged pieces of his personal set of armor were scattered in Anglo-Saxon England, later recovered by the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir after raiding several river-bound locations.[1]
