Saint Dominic (August 8, 1170 – August 6, 1221), also known as St. Dominic of Caleruega, was a Castilian priest. In 1216, he founded the Dominican Order, also known as the Order of Preachers, in order to address the spiritual needs of the growing cities. He was granted authority by the new Pope, Honorius III.
