Romanos I Lekapenos (Greek: Ρωμανός Α Αικαττηνος; c. 870 – 948), or simply Romanos, was an Armenian-born Byzantine admiral who became Emperor from 920 until his deposition on 16 December 944.

During his reign, he constructed a crypt beneath the Myrelaion Church in Constantinople to serve as a funerary chapel for his wife Theodora, who died in 922.[1]
