The Recurve Bow is a bow with limbs that curve away from the wielder. These bows have been common throughout the history at least ever since the 5th century BCE, when they were widely found and used in Greece.
Description
The design of a recurve bow has the limbs stretch away from the wielder when unstrung. Compared to straight-limbed bows, recurve bows can hold and deliver more power to an arrow when released. They provide the most advantage when used from horseback.[1] They were noted for their relative ease of use from even the most unskilled archer.[2]
Recurve bows in 5th century BCE Greece were mostly made of wood with ornamental decoration. The quality of such bows ranged from common to the epic, and could be found in most blacksmith's shops.[2] By the 1st century BCE, in Egypt, recurve bows had become scarce. Made with a mixture of animal and plant products, they were said to harness the power of nature.[3]
History
A variant of the bow was made available to the Spartan misthios Kassandra via an Animus modification by the Assassin Layla Hassan, who relived the former's memories.[2] Similarly, a light bow variant of the bow was made available to the Medjay Bayek of Siwa.[3] By the 9th century CE, a predator bow variant of the bow was made available to the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir.[4]

Behind the scenes
The commonly found Recurve Bow, a weapon in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, shares the same model as a number of other similar weapons in the same game, including the bows of Dumontos, of the Muses, and of the Stalker, as well as the Oaken Bow of Chambers, Natakas' Hunting Bow, and the Heirloom Bow. These are all the recycled model of Griffin, a weapon in Assassin's Creed: Origins.
In Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, two different weapons are named 'Recurve Bow'. One of them is commonly found throughout the game, while the other is a unique Store-item.
