The rabbits (Leporidae) are partially domesticated mammals. A lot of rabbit varieties are domesticated European rabbits, whilst several wild species of rabbit still exist. This in contrary to the hare, which have no domesticated variants.
During the Golden Age of Piracy many wild rabbits could be found in the Bahamas, including the area around Nassau. Pirate Edward Kenway often hunted rabbits for their pelts.[1]
