Prussia was a German state in central Europe, becoming part of the German Empire from its unification in 1871 onwards, and it was formally dissolved in 1947.[1] Previously, the Prussian state took on other names such as Royal Prussia,[2] homeland to famed astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus.[3][4]
Prussia was held in high regard for their weapon manufacturing, with the Italian Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze having owned a Prussian Longsword,[5] and the Colonial Templar Shay Cormac having owned a pair of German Wheellocks.[6]
History
Honoré Gabriel Riqueti, comte de Mirabeau was exiled to Prussia in his early life due to criticizing French finance minister Charles Alexandre de Calonne.[7] In 1789, already back in France, Mirabeau attempted to win the support of his father Victor de Riqueti for election into the Estates-General by dedicating a book about the Prussian monarchy to him.[8]
In April 1792, the revolutionary government of France, dominated by the Girondists, declared war on Prussia and Austria. With Prussia seemingly prevailing over France, politician Maximilien de Robespierre was one of the first politicians to criticize the war,[9] calling for the removal of King Louis XVI.[10] That same year, a Prussian and Austrian army, under the command of the Duke of Brunswick, attempted to attack Paris, though was foiled by the French Assassin Arno Dorian sabotaging their communication.[11] During the war, a Prussian regiment fought alongside Napoleon Bonaparte,[12] being led by the prince of Isenburg-Birstein, another German state.[13]
On 16 June 1815, Bonaparte defeated the Prussians in the Battle of Ligny, in what would become his final victory. Two days later, at Waterloo, the British, reinforced by the Prussians, dealt him his legendary defeat.[14]
