The polar bear (Ursus maritimus) is a hypercarnivorous mammal whose native range extends throughout the Arctic Circle.

In the late 9th century, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan encountered a legendary polar bear in Norway that had been nicknamed the "Bear of The Blue Waters". After a grueling duel, she eventually slew the beast and looted its head, which she brought back to the Hunter's Hut in Ravensthorpe to have mounted as a trophy.[1]

During the Seven Years' War, they were hunted by European colonists in North America for their pelts. The Templar Shay Cormac in particular encountered them in Fogo and the HMS Sapphire shipwreck.[2]
