The polar bear (Ursus maritimus) is a hypercarnivorous mammal whose native range extends throughout the Arctic Circle.
In the late 9th century, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan encountered a legendary polar bear in Norway that had been nicknamed the "Bear of the Blue Waters". After a grueling duel, she eventually slew the beast and looted its head, which she brought back to the Hunter's Hut in Ravensthorpe to have mounted as a trophy.[1]
During the Seven Years' War, they were hunted by European colonists in North America for their pelts. The Templar in particular encountered them in Fogo and the HMS Sapphire shipwreck.[2]
