Philip II, called Philip Augustus (French: Philippe Auguste; 21 August 1165 – 14 July 1223), was King of France from 1180 to his death.
During the late 12th century, he established different markets and fairs in what was called Les Champeaux. This later evolved into Les Halles. Philip would also inaugurate the Louvre as a fortress.
