A penteconter, or pentaconter, was a small sea-faring vessel and a type of galley used in the antiquity. Due to their size, they were fast and thus hard to ram.
During the Peloponnesian War, penteconters were used by Athenians and Spartans, as well as pirates and Persians.[1]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Πεντηκόντορος (pentekontoros) is Greek for 'fifty-oared'.
