Paulus Aurelius (died 47 BCE) was a Roman money leader who operated in the province of Cyrene during the 1st century BCE. He was an associate of Sminthos, who described him as a man who often spent his time drinking using the services of prostitutes.
In 47 BCE, sometime after Sminthos left the bathouse, Paulus was assassinated by a man named Oidipous, the son of a prostitute who came to Cyrene to seek revenge for his mother's death. Sminthos was framed for the murder and as a result was captured by Roman soldiers.[1]
