Dom Poirier's illustration of a set of patens from Saint-Denis

A Paten is a small plate used to hold the sacramental bread of Eucharist. They are usually made of a precious metal.

History

During the French Revolution in 1794, the monk Dom Poirier listed a set of three patens in the town of Saint-Denis. While searching for the Isu Temple beneath Saint-Denis, the Assassin Arno Dorian and his ally Léon recovered the patens and discovered that, when placed together and combined with light, the plates revealed the location of the Temple.[1]
