The Palais de Justice (English: Palace of Justice) formerly the Palais de la Cité (English: Palace of the City) is located on the Boulevard du Palais in the Île de la Cité in central Paris, France. It is one of the oldest surviving buildings of Palais de la Cité.

History

The building was originally built by King Philip IV in 1296. It served as as where he consolidated the dispensation of justice, although the judges soon came to be infamous for their corruption.[1]

During the French Revolution, the palace was used as a courtroom and prison where Marie Antoinette and other prisoners were held and tried by the Revolutionary Tribunal.[1][2]
