The Statue of Orestes

Orestes was a legendary King of Sparta and Argos who lived during the Trojan War. He was the son of king Agamemnon and queen Klytaimnestra, and thus brother of Iphigenia.

After his death, Orestes' bones were brought to Sparta from Tegea on the advice of the Delphic Oracle. A tomb was established for him near the center of Sparta.[1] A statue revering Orestes was raised in the agora of the Village of Gytheion.[2]

During the Peloponnesian War, Orestes' tomb was visited the misthios Kassandra.[1]
