Oedipous was a king of Thebes in Greek mythology. The son of King Laios, Oedipous ended up inadvertently killing his own father and marrying his own mother, Jocasta, a fate that had been foretold at his birth by the Oracle of Delphi.

Oedipous also met the Sphinx, and answered correctly her riddle.
