Novice

Novice is the lowest rank in the Hashshashin sect. They have no use of the Short Blade, Throwing Knives, or Hidden Blade, only being able to use their fists. They are also unable to use the abilities Counter Attack, Counter Grab, Defense Break, Dodge, or Climb Walls. For the player, the amount of Synchronization available is lowest when Altaïr is first demoted to Novice rank.

Altaïr gets demoted to Novice after his failure at Solomon's Temple, after which he can climb back up to the top by performing assassinations.

Abilities

When Altaïr is demoted to Novice, he will only be allowed to use his Fists as weapons- nothing else. His ability to use the following weapons is lost:

• Hidden Blade
• Longsword
• Short Blade
• Throwing Knives

In addition, he loses many other pieces of important equipment, causing him to lose the following abilities:

• Counter Kills
• Tackling
• Catch Ledge
• Grab Break
• Regain Balance
• Dodge
• Extra Throwing Knives
• Defense Break
• Short Blade Expertise
• Sword Expertise

He will slowly gain all his abilities back as he progresses through the ranks.
