Nikias

Nikias was a Greek resident of Kanopos whose father, Philocrates, was the patron of the Prasina Green, a group of chariot racers that Nikias was a part of.

Biography

Like his father and many members of the Prasina Green, Nikias highly respected Icarus, a prominent former racer of the team who won many races in the Lageion Hippodrome. When Icarus died in 48 BCE, the residents of Kanopos, including Nikias, greatly grieved his passing.[1]

When a memorial was held in front of the Hippodrome to commemorate Icarus' accomplishments, Nikias was one of many who attended. There, he was confronted and assaulted by two members of a rival racing team, the Veneta Blue, named Archippos and Maleos. Claridas, another member of the Blues, asked the duo to stop and allow Nikias to weep in peace. [2]

Later that night, Nikias visited the tavern in the town, where he overheard Claridas talking to an old friend, the Medjay, Bayek. Nikias visited Bayek on the second floor and invited him to join Green team, who were in need of racers. The conversation however was interrupted by Claridas who asked him to leave Bayek in peace.[2]
