Nightshades, or Solanaceae, are a family of flowering plants that range from herbs, vines, trees, medicinal plants, and spices. Some of them are poisonous, while many are found to be agricultural crops, like tomatoes and potatoes.
History
During the Viking Age in England, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan was assigned by berserkr Bjorn Bloodtooth to find nightshade for his berserkr brew, in order to prepare against an enemy Mercian lord.[1] Eivor agreed and went to find the deadly nightshade at a graveyard in East Anglia. After procuring the poison, Eivor headed back to Bjorn, who used it to make his berserkr brew, which proved to be psychedelic once Eivor and Bjorn drank it.[2]
During the early 16th century in Rome, Italy, nightshade became a proponent for poisoning and was used by the Assassins of the Italian Brotherhood of Assassins against their fight against the Templar Cesare Borgia. In fact, Assassin Tessa Varzi was more proficient and experienced with the poison, which frightened her fellow Assassin teammates, Francesco Vecellio and Cipriano Enu. In fact, Tessa used the nightshade to either create concoctions, such as paralyzing dust, or by itself to quickly poison their enemies.[3]
