Nathanael Greene (7 August 1742 – 19 June 1786) was a soldier in the Continental Army who rose over the course of the American Revolutionary War from the rank of militia private to Major General.

Biography

In the winter of 1777–1778, Nathanael was with the army when they camped at Valley Forge. Thousands were dying from starvation, cold, and diseases due to the lack of food and poor housing, and Greene was appointed as quartermaster to help remedy this situation. In this capacity, he was chiefly responsible for procuring supplies and delivered on this job sufficiently for the army to emerge strong enough for battle by spring.[1]

In 1780, Greene had lost a few battles, so the Assassin Connor sent his recruits to council him, helping win the battle of Springfield and secure New Jersey.[2] The following year, Greene sent Otho Williams to scout Charles Cornwallis's troops, leading to the battle of Wetzell's Mill, which the Assassins had to intervene in.[3]
