Narfljot Camp (lit: Corpse river camp) was a Viking campsite of the Wolf Clan in 9th-century northwestern Vinland.
History[edit | edit source]
In 875, the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir searched for Gorm Kjotvesson, the Maegester of the Order of the Ancients' Wardens of War sect, who was her blood enemy. Through her investigative travels, Eivor finally caught sight of Gorm at Narfljot Camp, where he gave a speech to his men, with a Crystal Ball in his hand. At this time, Gorm used the camp as a means of excavation, in order to find and release a "goddess"—Juno—from the nearby Grand Temple. However, Eivor came and assassinated Gorm before he could attempt to open the temple. From Gorm's personal effects, Eivor retrieved a clue about the identity of the Order's Grand Maegester, his medallion, and the Crystal Ball.[1]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
The Grand Temple makes its second appearance in the series within this camp, as its entrance is visible inside a nearby cave. It is mentioned that all of Gorm's attempts to open the temple door proved futile, because—as revealed in Assassin's Creed III—he lacked the necessary Apple of Eden. It's implied that Juno was manipulating Gorm through the Crystal Ball into trying to free her from her imprisonment inside the temple, and that she attempted to do the same with Eivor, but the latter turned back and left after seeing the temple door, feeling that whatever lay behind it was not intended for her.[1]
