Nara (奈良) is a city in Japan and one of its earliest capitals.
History
Nara was the capital of Japan in the 8th century. The Tang Buddhist monk Jianzhen arrived at Nara in 755 and established an ordination platform at Tōdai-ji for the imperial family to receive the Bodhisattva Precepts. He also commissioned the building of Tōshōdai-ji, where he would install the śarīra for safeguarding against the Golden Turtles who hunted them.[1]
