History
After leaving China, the monk Jianzhen arrived at Nara. He then established an ordination platform at the Tōdai-ji temple for the court to receive the Bodhisattva Precepts and to help the monks of Japan modernize. Jianzhen also prepared to erect the Tōshōdai-ji temple in order to guard the śarīra he had smuggled from the continent in order to keep out of the hands of the Golden Turtles.[1]
