Murad IV (Ottoman Turkish: Murād-i Rābi; Turkish: IV. Murat; 26/27 July 1612 – 8 February 1640), born Murad bin Ahmed, was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1623 to 1640.

Biography

In 1632, Murad witnessed the sustained, unpowered flight of Hezârfen Ahmed Çelebi, which took him across the Galata District and Bosphorus strait, landing safely on the shores of the Asian continent.[1]

Impressed by Hezârfen's apparently supernatural abilities, Murad paid him a large bag of gold coins. He then banished him to Algeria, where he died some years later.[1]
