The Morning Star

The Morning Star was a mace used in 5th century BCE Greece. Adorned with spikes, the Morning Star was more than just another blunt mace.

During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra found this weapon in the inventories of blacksmiths and looted it from bodies and chests during her travels throughout Greece.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Morning Star, a weapon in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, shares the model with a number of other weapons in the same game, for example the Mace of the Sphinx. They are both recycled from the Bone-Cracker, a weapon in Assassin's Creed: Origins, which itself was apparently based on a mace from Roman Egypt dated to 30 B.C.–A.D. 364 which is now at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with accession number "15.2.6a, b".[2]
