After the successful training of one of Abstergo Industries' recruits to the rank of Master Templar,[1] the Templar-owned company founded the Abstergo Industries Geosimulation Workspace, an initiative that aimed to empirically study global war as a social process. For this project, the company selected certain users of their Animus portable games console, granting them special clearance to participate.

As a result, they were exposed to the genetic memories of various individuals during the end of the French and Indian War, through digital personas known as Animi Avatars.[2]
