Midalstífla (Runic: ᛘᛁᛏᛅᛚᛋᛏᛁᚠᛚᛅ) was the western dam in northern Svaladal, Svartálfaheimr. During the Muspel invasion of the realm, jötnar warriors made a base at the bottom of the dam as they guarded a portal to Ginnungagap.
History[edit | edit source]
In Eivor Varinsdottir's visions of Odin's time in Svartalfheim, the Æsir lord Havi traveled towards the dam after catching a trail of the Muspel warlord Surtr's daughter Eysa being taken by the Muspel scientist Calder. At the foot of one of the dam's statues, Havi theorized that Calder may use the elven device called the Salakar to steal Eysa's soul. When he reached the dam, he found bodies of Muspel guards and an unconscious Eysa, but before he could help her, Calder challenged him to a fight. After a lengthy duel, Havi bested Calder, who dropped the Salakar. Eysa awoke as the duel concluded and, furious that her father was letting Calder experiment on their own people, drained Calder's soul into the Salakar instead and began a temporary alliance with Havi.[1]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Depending on either dam in Svartalfheim, Havi may have chosen to enter the portal at Midalstífla after wearing all the pieces of armor of the Jotun Armor Set.[2]
