Mauritius, officially the Republic of Mauritius, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean. Between 1710 and 1810, it was known as Isle de France.

By the time of the Seven Years' War in the mid-18th century, Isle de France was becoming an important trading port. Templar Shay Cormac used his fleet to expand the influence of the British Empire on the island by shipping troops and medical supplies there,[1] eventually securing a safe harbour in the island, allowing for an alternative supply point for trade with India.[2]
