Mary Ann Todd Lincoln (1818 – 1882) was the first lady of the United States when her husband, Abraham Lincoln, was president.
In early 1862, Mary and her husband personally invited the Italian opera singer Adelina Patti to perform for them following one of her American tour concerts.[1] After her husband's assassination on 15 April 1865, Mary received a letter of condolences from Queen Victoria,[2] which she replied to on 21 May, expressing her gratitude for the Queen's message.[3]
