Marco Barbarigo was cousin of Silvio Barbarigo and a Templar. He and his powerful family bought entire fleets and thousands of jewels. Apparently whatever Marco wanted he got.He is later the Doge of Venice and has a personal bodyguard, Dante Moro, previous captain of the city guard.
He was jealous of Dante's wife Carlotta, so had Dante stabbed in the head. Dante survived with severe brain damage and the mind of a child.
Marco and Dante are first seen at a meeting in Venice with Silvio and Carlo Grimaldi. Here they plot to kill the current Doge and it is decided Marco will take his place. He is next seen attending the Carnival in Venice on a barge. It is here that Ezio shoots him with the hidden gun amid the noise of the fireworks.
He is somehow related to Emilio Barbarigo.
