Luca degli Albizzi (1382 – 1458) was a member of the House of Albizzi, a prominent banking family in Florence.
Biography
Worried about the rising influence of Cosimo de' Medici, the Albizzi had him imprisoned in the Palazzo della Signoria. Gaining influence behind the scenes, Cosimo rose to power in 1434 and exiled the entire Albizzi family except for Luca, who had been loyal to him.[1][2]
Luca subsequently joined the Signoria, the ruling body of Florence. In 1441, Luca succeeded Cosimo's old friend Ilario Auditore as Gonfaloniere of Florence.[1][2]
