Ammon (died 870) was a Hidden One active during the 9th century in Constantinople. He was killed by Sigurd Styrbjornsson during a mission in Bulgar.
Biography
In 870, while on a mission to recover a Shroud of Eden from a merchant's palace,[1] Ammon fatally wounded the Viking Knud who had broken in, and rose to confront the intruder's companion, Sigurd Styrbjornsson.[2]
Ammon's opponent became over-confident of his sword forged of crucible steel, Ammon however easily broke it with his Hidden Blade. With his guard broken, Ammon stabbed Sigurd in the gut. Sigurd then fell to his knees, shocked that he was bested. Ammon cursed the Norseman's greed, and leapt out the window to deal with the new threat of several soldiers from the Order of the Ancients approaching the fortress. He prayed that Sigurd's gods would greet him well.
Further in the palace, Ammon found what he came for. To Ammon's amazement, Sigurd survived his wound and mocked him for treasuring a dirty rag. Enraged, Ammon attacked the Viking, only to be slain. With his dying breath, he begged Sigurd not to take the Shroud, although the Viking had no interest in it and instead used his axe to sever Ammon's right wrist to claim the Hidden Blade for himself.[1]
Personality and characteristics
Ammon was a loyal member of the Hidden Ones, risking his life to retrieve and protect the Shroud of Eden. When angered, however his attacks became easy to read. He was also somewhat inexperienced, as remarked by Basim Ibn Ishaq when receiving the news of his death.[1]
Equipment and skills
Ammon wielded a Hidden Blade, like all Hidden Ones. Unlike most members of the Order, he wore the blade on his posterior forearm instead of below the wrist, and so was seemingly still in possession of his ring finger. He was able to incapacitate Knud without much effort and faced Sigurd without fear.[2]
Behind the scenes
Ammon is a character introduced in the second issue of Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Song of Glory. His name is the Greek variant of Amun, the Egyptian god.
