Kyrios the Master

Kyrios the Master (died c. 420s BCE) was a Spartan mercenary who operated in Greece in 5th century BCE.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Prior to taking up the job of a mercenary, Kyrios served as a leader of a Spartan platoon. At one point, his whole unit was ambushed by a group of assailants although he was able to survive and escape. Rumours soon emerge of a plan to eliminate those who knew some terrible secret he kept. However, there was no record of it and he left the Spartan Army and became a mercenary.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, a bounty contract was placed on Kyrios, one which a fellow Spartan and misthios Kassandra accepted. She tracked down Kyrios' whereabouts and eliminated him.[2]
