The Koressia Fort was a partially ruined fort within the Ancient Ruins of Kunastros on the island of Keos, Greece in the 5th century BCE. Built to serve as the primary military base on the island, it was occupied by a sizable number of soldiers.
History[edit | edit source]
Following the pirates overtaking the town of Koressia, the leader of the Pirate Islands was forced to flee his house in Poiessa Village. He took refuge within the Koressia Fort, where also the national funds were kept.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War, the leader of the pirates, Xenia, tasked the Spartan misthios Kassandra to weaken the exiled leader by stealing his riches. Kassandra subsequently infiltrated the fort, and stole what she could, including the Black Axe.[2]
