Kantara Castle, located in Kyrenia, was a residence temporarily used by Templars and a location visited by Altaïr during his search for the Archives.

History

Kantara Castle was a personal stronghold for Moloch, a religious zealot and Templar commander. Moloch himself spent a great deal of time in the church of the compound. Maria seemed incredulous when learning that Altair plans to infiltrate the castle, probably because of the tight security. However, she refuses to tell this to Altair, cryptically saying "You'll see."

The Castle itself was inhabited by both guards and aggressive religious fanatics, with the former apparently untrusting and suspicious of the later, telling each other that "one can't even look one these fanatics in the eye without spilling some pious nonsense".

Trivia

  • The actual Kantara Castle was built by the Byzantines in the 10th century and served as a lookout post against Arab raiders. It is the easternmost structure of a network of castles in the Kyrenia mountain range and stands 630 metres above sea level. Its first historical mention is during Richard the Lionheart's capture of Cyprus in 1191. At the time the Byzantine Governor of the island (Isaac Comnenus) had taken refuge here.
