Statue of Kali

Kali is a Hindu goddess (possibly an Isu) associated with time, power, creation, and destruction, especially that of evil forces.

Influence

After her move to India, the British Assassin Evie Frye developed an interest in the goddess.[1]

Around 1873, Evie's brother, Jacob Frye came to visit her and their Indian brethren with some apprentices. Jacob, Evie and Henry Green visited a temple of Kali, along with one of Jacob's initiates, 'Jack the Lad', and they had their picture taken.[2] As a souvenir, Evie gave Jacob a statue of Kali.[1]

When Evie returned to London in 1888, she found a note Jacob had left for her inside the statue, helping her with her investigation into the Whitechapel murders.[2]

Evie also discovered brass knuckles which the Indian Assassins had made, but which, by 1888, were held in a chest in the Owers Manor.[3]
