A jäger

Jaegers were a detachment of German troops contracted by the British to fight in the North American Revolutionary War. They were colloquially known as "Hessians" and operated independent of most British protocols.

Jaegers specialised in deep forest and wilderness combat, tactics and reconnaissance as well as unconventional warfare. Jaegers were regarded as an elite scouting unit, used for surveying the area ahead of a body of troops or leading the way on the frontlines.

Jaegers gained a fierce reputation as fearsome warriors and reliable, disciplined troops. They were well respected within the ranks of the army.

Jaegers were distinguishable from the British by their grey and blue coats.

Gameplay

Jaegers are the toughest enemies sin Assassin's Creed 3. They cannot be directly attacked, counterattacked, thrown or have their defence broken through conventional means. Attempting to do so results in a parry or a retaliatory counter. The only known ways to kill them are environmental kills, lethal tools or countering, then disarming and repeatedly attacking them.

Jaegers are not altogether common in the city; however, when full notoriety is attained jaegers comb the city actively searching. Jaegers are smarter and much more aggressive than average regulars and will employ advanced tactics and detection skills. Jaegers are agile and may chase across rooftops.

Jaegers use officer's swords and flintlock pistols that allow them to parry, punch and lunge as well as attack from a distance. They usually attack in quick succession or 3 or 4 thrust making it harder to counter.
