Ino was a mortal queen of Boeotia, who after her death and transfiguration was revered as a goddess of the sea under her epithet Leucothea in Greek mythology.
In the myth, after throwing herself into the sea with her deceased son, Melicertes, her corpse was said to have washed up on the coast of Megaris. Megarians then dedicated a small shrine located in southwestern Megara to her, where an annual sacrifice was performed in her honor.[1]
