Ignacy Ioakhimovich Hryniewiecki (Игнатий Гриневицкий; c. 1856 – 1881) was a Polish revolutionary and a member of the Narodnaya Volya during the 19th century. He was responsible for the assassination of the Tsar Alexander II of Russia, who was influenced by the Templars.

Biography

Assassination of the Tsar

On 13 March 1881, Hryniewiecki and three other members of the Narodnaya Volya intercepted the Tsar's cavalcade with homemade bombs. Carrying out the attack near the Catherine Canal as his cavalcade went past, Hryniewiecki's bomb was the one to deal fatal damage to the Tsar.[1] Unfortunately, Hryniewiecki himself was caught in the blast and his allies could not retrieve him, he later died from his wounds in the Court Stables Infirmary.[2]

Legacy

His actions led to the instability of the Russian oligarchy and set the stage for the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917.[3]
