Pope Honorius III (1150 – 18 March 1227), born Cencio Savelli, was Pope from 1216 to his death.
Shortly after he was elected as Pope, Honorius granted St. Dominic of Caleruega the authority to establish the Dominican Order, also known as the Order of Preachers, to address the spiritual needs of the growing cities.
