Hippodrome was an ancient Greek arena designed especially for racing of horses and chariots.
History
With the introduction of the Olympic Games, hippodromes were used to host many chariot-racing events, most notable being the Hippodrome at the Sanctuary of Olympia in Elis, Greece.[1]
In 48 BCE, Lageion Hippodrome in Alexandria served as the home to several charioteer-teams, including Prasina Green and Veneta Blue.[2]
In Constantinople, there was a hippodrome that was actually built according to Roman ideas, and was therefore rather a circus.[3]
