Hippodamos of Miletos (498 BCE – 408 BCE) was an ancient Greek architect, urban planner, physician, mathematician, meteorologist and philosopher.
Among his many accomplishments, Hippodamos is considered "the father of European urban planning"[1] due to his work to improve Athens, creating a grid plan of the city with parallel streets and rectangular intersections.[2]
The agora at the Port of Piraeus was called the "Hippodamian agora" in his honor.[3]
