He was also known for his social theory: the Fordism, an idea to combine mass consumption with mass production to produce sustained economic growth and widespread material advancement. For that, he claimed to have raised his employees' pay to 5$ (from 2~3$ before), while actually giving them a pay cut, and made them believe the other way with the Piece of Eden (4) he received from Thomas Edison.
