Alkmene is a figure in Greek mythology.

Biography

Approached by Zeus, Alkmene became the mother of Herakles.[1]

Influence

In the 5th century BCE, Alkmene was recalled as part of the Greek myths even by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[2]

Behind the scenes

The Garden of Kynosarges was dedicated in addition to Herakles and his nephew Iolaos, also to Alkmene by its builder, the hero Didymos.
