Hammerhead sharks are a species of shark found in tropical oceans worldwide. Their name is derived from the unusual shape of their head which gives them increased sensory ability to detect prey.
In the early 18th century, hammerhead sharks were hunted by various individuals, such as the pirates Edward Kenway and Adéwalé. These bones were profitable in this era of the West Indies, and Edward used them as crafting material for his second ammunition pouch and his shark hunter outfit.[1]
Trivia
- In Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, hammerhead sharks can be hunted for "hammerhead shark bones". In reality, sharks do not have mineralized bones, only cartilage and connective tissue.
