The Hagia Sophia was a former Eastern-Orthodox basilica located in the Imperial district of the city of Constantinople that used to be called Sancta Sophia. Following the fall of Constantinople in 1453, it was converted into Hagia Sophia mosque by Mehmed II. It was also used as a library.
Trivia
- According to writer Darby McDevitt, there is "something very special buried beneath the marble floors" of the Hagia Sophia.
