Algiers is the capital and largest city of Algeria.
History
In 1511, King Samis El Felipe was captured by the king of Spain, and Ottoman Assassins sent from Constantinople by Ezio Auditore da Firenze corresponded with him while he was in prison, exchanging letters back and forth in order to maintain contact.[1] Through this correspondence, the former king authorized the Assassins to employ the aid of the pirate Hayreddin "Red Beard" Barbarossa to lower Spanish influence in the area. The Assassins then supported Red Beard in doing so.[2] After influence had weakened, the Ottoman Prince Korkut wished to ally himself with the Mamluk Sultan Al-Ashraf Qansuh al-Ghawri. The Ottoman Assassins were ordered to spy on the meeting and report back.[3]
The amir Selim of Algiers also proposed to turn a blind eye to the activities of the Assassins in Algiers, in return for protection of a community of Moors living on the island Penon, captured by the Spanish.[4]
Later, the Ottoman Assassins took over Algiers from Templar control, and restored and expanded the city, installing several Assassin Dens in the process.[5]
